Website Design Guidelines

Numerous usability-testing studies (e.g., HOMEPAGE USABILITY, 50 Websites Deconstructed, Jacob Nielsen & Marie Tahir, New Riders Publishers, 2002) have shown that websites work best when they follow the conventions users have learned from other sites. This allows for what is called ‘a transfer of learning’ from those sites, to your website. Consistency with other websites allows users to focus their limited time to the unique content of your website.
